When healthy enough, Adam Cook traveled to see his younger brother perform on the Idol stage.

When healthy enough, Adam Cook traveled to see his younger brother perform on the Idol stage.

David Cook: Less than a month after announcing he’d participate in a charity run on his ill brother’s behalf, Cook made another announcement yesterday: his brother passed away after a 10-year battle with brain cancer.  Too sad for words.

TIME: Entertainment figures ranging from Tina Fey to Zac Efron made TIME’s annual list of the 100 most influential people.  Also included: the ladies of The View and Jay Leno.

Jay-Z: According to MTV, the rapper is pleased a recent show demonstrated “racial unity” since it was a joint bill with him, Kelly Clarkson and Third Eye Blind.  We’re pretty sure, though, if he wants it to have an impact, a show like that is going to have to happen more than once…

Robert DeNiro: Did you know his twin sons were born via surrogate?  Quickly learning that lots of celebs have gone that route and SJP is far from first.

SIZZLED OUT: Paula Abdul

STILL SIZZLING: This animated series could make it to the big screen–if anyone finds the time to do it.  Let’s hope it’s not canceled (again) in the meantime!

M versus M

M versus M

Britney: Will be separated from Sam Lutfi for the next three years, according to a court order.  Hopefully this means her career–and her life–will stay on the right track.

Sarah Jessica Parker: Breakup rumors be damned!  SJP and hubby Matthew Broderick are expecting twin girls via a surrogate.   She’ll be one busy lady, especially if plans move forward with the SATC sequel!

Miley Cyrus: Miss Hannah Montana better step it up a notch.  Miranda Cosgrove’s iCarly has passed the mega show in the ratings.  Do we have a new tween queen on our hands?

David Beckham: What does a soccer star know about the fashion industry?  We have no idea, but Beckham will be partnering with Adidas on a line.  At least it’s a sports company.

Supreme Court: Thanks to a new ruling, it’s likely live broadcasts (like awards shows) will keep a delay feature to prevent “isolated expletives.”  Yes, it’s as strange as it sounds.

SIZZLED OUT: Pink (Carey Hart)

STILL SIZZLING: This A-list supercouple are making waves–the good kind!–in the small suburban town where they’ve taken up residence during a film shoot.

Looks good to us!

Looks good to us!

Jessica Simpson: Just the latest star to get slammed online for gaining weight.  Like it’s a crime to be a size 8!  Surprisingly, sister Ashlee made a great case on her blog as to why we should just leave Jessica–and all women–alone.

Slumdog Millionaire: The families of the child actors that played Latika and Salim are alleging they’ve been exploited by the film’s execs and production company.  Could this be the end of Slumdog’s positive press run?

The Reader: Will get to submit 4 producer names in the Oscars Best Picture category instead of the usual 3, since two of those producers (sadly) died partway through production.  Sounds fair, no?

Lisa Kudrow: Producing a new reality show where celebs such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Susan Sarandon research their families.  Sounds fascinating, just like most reality shows.

Facebook: Seems like every day there’s a hoard of new fan pages.  Most popular page: Barack Obama.  Wonder how long til that ends?

Facebook Pt. 2: A new study suggests how many friends you have in life are related to your genes.  And now Gawker is trying to use to that to explain Facebook and a user’s popularity.  Something got lost in translation, no?

Joaquin Phoenix: Entertainment Weekly says they have sources that prove Phoenix’s foray into rapping is a “hoax.”  Yawn.

PETA: Their ad for the Superbowl was rejected but it seems they won out in the end (and it was all purposefully done) to attract people to view it–and PETA’s message–online.  The ad is pretty scandalous, we must admit.

Tyra Banks: Getting the “exellence in media” award from GLAAD.  Never thought the two had much in common but guess we’re wrong.

Twitter: If you’re on it, you should follow NUTwitProject and help some students try to save the world.  Okay, not really.  But you should still follow them and answer their questions!

SIZZLED OUT: Ugly Betty

STILL SIZZLING: Looks like someone new does in fact own them!  This classic 90s feminist movie is headed to Broadway.

Can history PLEASE repeat itself?

Can history PLEASE repeat itself?

SATC: Sarah Jessica Parker is clarifying co-star Kim Cattrall’s announcement yesterday of a Sex and the City sequel.  “All the deals are not done yet,” SJP says.  We’ve never thought of Carrie as a party pooper before but we might have to reassess that view.

Britney: How’s this for a letdown: Brit Brit did appear on-stage with Madonna.  Just not at the same time as Justin.  Disappointing but we remain hopeful for a future reunion.

OTH: We are RUNNING to get the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, which features a multi-page article on One Tree Hill!  Did you know OTH gets better ratings that Gossip Girl?  Damn straight, it does!

American Idol: The new season starts January 13.  Let the countdown begin!

Grey’s Anatomy: The show needs some positive buzz right about now and this might get it for them: they’re planning a February cross-over with Private Practice.   These are usually quite cheesy, though, so we’re curious to see how it’s gonna work.

Chicago Tribune: The official election may be over but the rumor of it isn’t.  The Trib has come up with joke covers showcasing different results.  Pretty funny.

NYT: The Times are taking some steps into the future: first with their own social network, and also with Times Extra, which will link to rival publications.  Which papers will follow suit?

SIZZLED OUT: The Simpsons

STILL SIZZLING: This old fellow is giving one of his many ex-girlfriends away to be married…a mere few weeks after they split!
