This your American Idol. You okay with that?

This your American Idol. You okay with that?

American Idol: Has there been a bigger upset in Idol history?  We think not.  And we totally blame all the pre-finale hoopla around Adam  Lambert for his loss.  The hype totally backfired on him!

Kanye West: Used his blog to declare “Justin is the new Mike, Beyonce’s the new Tina Turner [and] GaGa’s Madonna.”  Kind of little soon to be making grand statements like that, no?  Then again, this is Kanye West so…

Pete Wentz: Peeved at Gawker for including him, Ashlee Simpson and son Bronx, in their Stalker column.  The result?  “Hate mail” sent to Gawker on his behalf gives them another opportunity to make fun of him.  Good work, Pete.  But we suppose this tweet was Pete’s way of firing back again.  To be continued?

Natalie Cole: The singer, who suffers from hepatitis C, had a kidney transplant this week.  What would we do without organ donors?

Kelly Rutherford: Apparently hiring private investigators to watch your husband doesn’t just happen in the movies.  If you’re Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford, it’s just one more twist in your divorce drama.

Twitter: E! Online is planning to incorporate tweets into its scroll at the bottom of all programming.  Is it fair to say now that Twitter has gone mainstream?

SIZZLED OUT: Privileged

STILL SIZZLING: The artist who voiced this iconic animal character passed away this week. Guess the Magic Kingdom will be in mourning for a while…

A screencap from JT and Ciara's scandalous new video

A screencap from JT and Ciara's scandalous new video

American Idol: It’s hard out there for an Idol, especially if you’re David Cook.  The reigning champ took to his MySpace blog to call out aggressive fans.  Warns Cook: “preventative measures” may be taken if their behavior doesn’t stop.

DWTS: We always wondered what the celeb contestants got for their participation.  We hoped and assumed it was a donation to their favorite charity but apparently that’s not the case.  Instead they get paid upwards of $200,000!

Justin Timberlake: Wonder how Jessica Biel feels about JT’s sexy appearance in Ciara’s new music video.  You can say it’s acting and just business, but we know we wouldn’t be okay with this!

David Letterman: The Late Show host is just the latest entertainer to get married recently.  Dave announced last night that he wed his longtime girlfriend and babymama. Glad to hear there’ll be one more happy families around!

Lance Armstrong: In the midst of a cycling comeback, Armstrong has broken his collarbone.  Let’s wish the cyclist and father-to-be (again) a speedy recovery.

Facebook: Still getting slammed for the recent redesign but has said nothing to appease users.  This can’t end well, can it?

Jossip: Redesigned again!  At least they’ve re-posted a slew of Ashton Kutcher’s TwitPics.

SIZZLED OUT: Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart

STILL SIZZLING: This actress-comedian is working to recapture the magic of the 90s as she develops another sitcom.

The next Peter Parker and Mary-Jane?

The next Peter Parker and Mary-Jane?

Justin Timberlake: Will be a guest on the first episode of Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show, airing Monday.  Don’t know about you, but that’s not enough to get us to watch.

Schwarzenegger: Who said he was done with Hollywood?  The governator will be making a cameo in a Sylvester Stallone film.  That seems like a good use of his time.

David Archuleta: Blogged about filming a guest spot on Hannah Montana and said “Miley was a cool person to hang out with.”  By next week, the tabloids will be calling them a couple.

Gilmore Girls: The final season, arguably its worst, is finally coming to syndication.  You can watch it this June on ABC Family.

Spider-Man: A Broadway musical version is definitely happening, with a targeted opening date of early 2010.  Possible casting: Evan Rachel Wood and Jim Sturgess, the latter of whom we ADORE.  Coincidence: their Across the Universe director, Julie Taymor, is behind the musical.

Wheel of Fortune: Our episode airs tomorrow night!  Check your local listings for channel and time.

SIZZLED OUT: Ronald Reagan

STILL SIZZLING: This movie is being remade.  But giving you a HINT would give away the answer!

One of these things is not like the others.

One of these things is not like the others.

Chris Brown: One week after news first broke about the alledged assault, Brown finally released a statement saying he’s “saddened” by what’s happened but urges people not to believe everything they hear and read.  Brown might have more to say after tonight when MTV airs a special on his relationship with Rihanna.

Grammys: When Brown and Rihanna canceled their appearances due to the above, Justin Timberlake came to the rescue by putting together a last-minute performance.

American Idol: All seven winners gathered in Disney World to open a new attraction called The American Idol Experience.  Very original title!

Twitter: Reports say the micro-blogging site is worth $230 million.  But it’s still no Facebook!

SIZZLED OUT: U2

STILL SIZZLING: This upcoming Dancing With the Stars contestant is suspiciously absent from any related articles on the Entertainment Tonight site.  Could it be because she’s the host of a rival program??

We could've been sisters!

We could've been sisters!

Britney: Apparently those restraining orders come with a price.  Sam Lutfi is suing Brit Brit for defamation.  Wonder if the court will rule him a public figure?

Miley Cyrus: They’ve both dated a Jonas Brother (more on them below!) and now they’ll have something else in common: Grammy performances.  Cyrus will duet with Taylor Swift on this Sunday’s show.

Obama: The Sasha and Malia dolls are being renamed Sydney and Mariah.  Obama wins again!

Twitter: Ashton Kutcher is peeved that media outlets are taking some of his Tweets and misrepresenting him.  Or so he says on his blog.  Which he took to because “140 characters works for some things. Sometimes you need more space.”

TV: The Los Angeles Times is reporting that a new study shows watching TV can lead to depression.  That’s funny, because TV is what keeps us out of it!

HBO: In yet another example of art imitating life, the cable network is developing a new series that will explore the current finanial crisis.  Are they sure spending money on this series is a wise idea given the crisis in the first place?!

Gawker: With newspapers failing and even online sites suffering, Gawker asks: would people rather pay to read the current level of NYT journalism, or have it go away? Not an easy question when you love The New York Times but can’t afford to “waste” money like that.

Gawker Pt. 2: They also put up a hilarious poll asking which Jo Bro you’d lay off.  We know, we know…all of them!

SIZZLED OUT: Justin Timberlake (Jessica Biel)

STILL SIZZLING: Though rarely seen in public, this actress–and close Madonna friend–is denying she, too, is having marriage troubles with her own Brit.

Was this foreshadowing?

Was this foreshadowing?

Ashlee Simpson: Gave birth last night to a boy named Bronx Mowgli.  We have a feeling dad Pete Wentz picked the name.  At least he wasn’t kidding earlier this week when he said fatherhood was “imminent.”

PEOPLE: That Sexiest Man Alive issue will feature scratch and sniff.  Even WE are creeped out.

Reese Witherspoon: Now we know for sure not to believe any tabloid that says Reese and Jake are headed to the altar.  The star herself says she’s not ready to remarry now, if ever.

Jennifer Aniston: Admits she’s computer illiterate and thinks Facebook is like “dancing with the devil.”  Sure she wasn’t talking about Angelina?

Jennifer Aniston Pt. 2: Loves watching FRIENDS repeats.  Ego trip?  She also says she watches some of the episodes and doesn’t actually remember doing them or what they were about.   We never understand celebs when they say that!  We remember every little detail of every little episode and we didn’t even make the damn things!  What’s your excuse?

ABC: The ax has fallen on not one, not two but THREE shows: Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money.  Is there anything left?!

CW: Did some cancellations of its own but none that we really care about.  Just the out-sourced shows that aired for a millisecond on Sunday nights.  In are repeats…of Jericho?  Weird.  That show was prematurely canceled itself!

Gossip Girl: To be honest, we don’t really understand this.  According to Ausiello, Connor Paolo (Eric) declined an offer to become a series regular yet will still stay on the show and somehow this is better for his career.  Whatevs.

SNL: People are speculating why Justin and Beyonce’s Single Ladies sketch isn’t available on-line.  Some say it’s JT’s fault because he wanted to be paid residuals.  Others say it’s just a “music clearance issue.”  How long til somebody caves?

SNL Pt. 2: Did last week’s show seem especially ‘gay’ to you?  Headwriter Seth Meyers was asked that very same question.

Heroes: The creator is blaming the show’s decline on DVR.  And now a TIME writer is taking him to task for not accepting responsibility.

Obama: Shows are seizing on the opportunity to name-drop the president-elect.  It’s actually kinda cool and makes them seem more real, we think.

Obama Pt. 2: The Washington Post takes an interesting look on whether it really matters if O has in fact quit smoking.

Roger Ebert: We love self-deprecation!  Ebert shows how good he is at it–and how he can be poignant at the same time–when he looks back on how his appearance has changed over the years.

Rosie O’Donnell: We LOVE her response to Babs’ insults on yesterday’s View.  Classic Ro.

Twitter: Now being used by Shaquille O’Neal.  Does that mean it’s time for us to stop?

SIZZLED OUT: Winona Ryder

STILL SIZZLING: This guy is the latest to be caught on camera with his pants down. But what will the queen say?!

trl1

AFTER 10 YEARS AND A 3-HOUR FINALE, TOTAL REQUEST LIVE IS OFFICIALLY OFF THE AIR.

The last TRL, renamed Total Finale Live for this special event, was a jam-packed celebration of the show that defined our childhood afternoons.

SOME THOUGHTS

Carson Daly returned to emcee the event with current host Damien Fahey.

The show actually started with a performance by Beyonce.

Weird that it was held on a Sunday night, and not a weekday, like the normal TRL.

Appearances from celebs ran the gamut from Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Jonathan Davis, Snoop Dogg and…Samuel L. Jackson?!

First on-air (and live!) interview with Travis Barker post-plane crash.  Very subdued, not that we blame him.

Diddy pretended to (or perhaps really??) choke up when he was honored for making the most appearances on TRL.

Awkward moment: Carson referring to ex Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Co-hosted by all the former VJs, including three of our faves: Hilarie Burton (yay One Tree Hill!), Dave Holmes and Jesse Camp, from the very first I Wanna Be a VJ contest.

Fall Out Boy performed…minus Pete Wentz.  He later called into the show and said he was in California prepping for imminent fatherhood.  Will it really be that soon?!

Soundbyte: “I bought Twilight on bootleg and watched it like 72 times”–Pete Wentz.  Setting a great example, as always.

Did Hilary Duff run into ex Joel Madden?

Kid Rock insisted on smoking a cigar on stage.  And here we thought it was illegal to smoke in New York venues…

Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez represented NSYNC but it would’ve been cool if the whole band returned AND performed.

X-Tina, Chris Brown, Ben Stiller and others spoke via satellite.

Disappointing moment: Eminem, on the phone, refuses to give any details about his upcoming album, Relapse.

Quintessential window references and segments with the Times Square crowd.

KoRn was hailed as the first rock band of TRL; brought back memories of the KoRn (number 3) spot.

A short segment looked back at the top MTV News moments, giving due respect to 9/11.  Wish they also mentioned Aaliyah.

Many shameless plugs: Bolt, Diddy’s new cologne (who was made fun of for hyping the most stuff over the years), Last Call, FNMTV and more.

East Coast and West Coast rap/hip-hop came together in medley featuring Nelly, Snoop and Ludacris.

Unnecessary moment: knocking LFO.

Soundbyte: “One of the finer moments of my life”–JT recalling when Halle Berry surprised him on a TRL ep.

Backstreet Boys given lots of praise, though we wish former member Kevin returned for the performance.

Soundbyte: “They outlived all the other boy bands and they outlived TRL“–Carson on BSB.

Noticeably absent: 98 Degrees, Jessica Simpson, Destiny’s Child, Mandy Moore, Jay-Z, Avril, Sum-41, Linkin Park and others.

Are all the TRL employees without jobs now?  After all, MTV (and parent Viacom) are doing lay-offs…

Soundbyte: Britney is “the queen of TRL“–Carson on Brit Brit who “couldn’t be here.”

Loved that some of our favorite moments were re-aired: the debut party for BSB’s Millenium album, Mariah and her ice cream truck, countless others.

Speaking of counting, the TRL finale wouldn’t be complete without a final countdown. The Top 10 videos from TRL history, as decided by the producers: Hey-Ya (Outkast), What’s My Age Again (Blink-182), Yeah (Ludacris, Usher, et. al.), Crazy in Love (Beyonce), Bawitdaba (Kid Rock), Dirrty (Christina Aguilera), Bye Bye Bye (NSYNC), I Want It That Way (BSB), The Real Slim Shady (Eminem), and, at number one, Baby One More Time (Britney).

Soundbyte: “Goodnight from New York and goodnight TRL“–Carson.

TEAR!

Hugh Jackman...all wet.

Hugh Jackman...all wet.

Fall TV: Can’t deny the season has been a major disappointment.  Every year we think it will be better and every year it, well, isn’t.

Hugh Jackman: In a new interview with Playboy, he admits not only did he wet himself on stage once, but a woman also ran up to the stage and flashed him!

Justin Timberlake: So Is JT still saying New York is the realest city?  He might not think so now that he and his restaurant are being sued by employees for back wages and tips.  Tsk, tsk.

Israeli Politics: Did an Israeli Prime Minister candidate steal Obama’s web site design?  It sure looks that way.

Obama: The president-elect will truly bring change to America: fireside chats via YouTube.

Facebook: So they won’t be making layoffs but they still won’t reach their goal of 1,000 employees.  A hiring freeze isn’t necessary when there isn’t anyone that wants to be hired!

SIZZLED OUT: Family Guy and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

STILL SIZZLING: This hip-hop superstar has given the media a lot to talk about lately.  The latest: being arrested (and not charged) again (!) for an altercation with a papparazzo.

We know we're not one to talk, but obsessions are NOT HEALTHY, people!

We know we're not one to talk but obsessions are NOT HEALTHY, people!

John Mayer: Jennifer Aniston sent some praise his way, and now he’s doing the same for her.  He told PEOPLE: “It’s really nice to have somebody in life have your back.  That girl knows me … so whether I go to bed alone or not, to have somebody who knows you in this world, that’s a really nice thing.”  Sweet or gag-inducing?

Paula Abdul: More disturbing information is being released about the shocking death outside the Idol’s home.  All it really shows: too little action taken too late.

Joe Jonas: After several weeks of bad press thanks to ex Taylor Swift, the middle Jo Bro used his MySpace to set the record straight.  This is getting a little too Degrassi for our liking.

Hollywood: Cutting back on the holiday party extravagance and we don’t feel bad one bit.

The View: For the very first time the show is number 1 in the daytime ratings but now that the election’s over we doubt’ll last.

Changeling: We still haven’t seen this movie, and though this article kind of spoils it, we’re even more fascinated now that the real-life mystery has been solved.

Hilary Duff: The former Lizzie McGuire signed a deal with NBC to develop and star in a new TV show.  No news yet if it’ll be part-cartoon.

Obama: The first sit-down is coming and it’s with 60 Minutes.  Expect it to air as soon as this Sunday.

Lip-Syncing: Don’t try it in China.  Soon it’ll be against the law!

Wall-E: When the hit comes out on DVD next week, there’ll be a short film starring Burn-E.  Yeah, we don’t remember him either.

Michael Moore: The filmmaker was originally planning a sequel to his Fahrenheit 9/11 but instead will focus on the economy.  New times, new problems, more movies.

Justin Timberlake: Called New York City the “realest in the world.”  Is realest even a word?!  And what makes NYC any more real than the thousands of others?

Can history PLEASE repeat itself?

Can history PLEASE repeat itself?

SATC: Sarah Jessica Parker is clarifying co-star Kim Cattrall’s announcement yesterday of a Sex and the City sequel.  “All the deals are not done yet,” SJP says.  We’ve never thought of Carrie as a party pooper before but we might have to reassess that view.

Britney: How’s this for a letdown: Brit Brit did appear on-stage with Madonna.  Just not at the same time as Justin.  Disappointing but we remain hopeful for a future reunion.

OTH: We are RUNNING to get the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, which features a multi-page article on One Tree Hill!  Did you know OTH gets better ratings that Gossip Girl?  Damn straight, it does!

American Idol: The new season starts January 13.  Let the countdown begin!

Grey’s Anatomy: The show needs some positive buzz right about now and this might get it for them: they’re planning a February cross-over with Private Practice.   These are usually quite cheesy, though, so we’re curious to see how it’s gonna work.

Chicago Tribune: The official election may be over but the rumor of it isn’t.  The Trib has come up with joke covers showcasing different results.  Pretty funny.

NYT: The Times are taking some steps into the future: first with their own social network, and also with Times Extra, which will link to rival publications.  Which papers will follow suit?

SIZZLED OUT: The Simpsons

STILL SIZZLING: This old fellow is giving one of his many ex-girlfriends away to be married…a mere few weeks after they split!
