The new parents are keeping it in the family!

The new parents are keeping it in the family!

Gossip Girl: Back from its winter hiatus tonight!  And so is One Tree Hill!  We couldn’t be happier!

Jennifer Love Hewitt: Before the holidays she was engaged.  After the holidays she’s single.  That time of the year can be hard on all of us, we tell ya.

Rebecca Romijn: Gave birth to twin girls last week, one of which is named Charlie…as in Jerry O’Connell’s brother Charlie.  Awkward?

Jennifer Hudson: Contrary to rumors, she won’t be performing at Obama’s inauguration.  Wonder when she’ll get back out there?  Not that we can blame her…

The Bachelor: As we said in November, we’re very interested in seeing what happens this season, which premieres tonight.  A single dad going on a dating show?  So not fair to the kid.

NYT: Credits “superheroes” with saving the film industry in 2008.

NYT Pt. 2: Unfortunately for them, their own industry has yet to be saved.  More evidence of how bad things are: the newspaper will now have ads on its front page–a very non-traditional move.

Men’s Vogue: Going from a previously announced 2 issues a year to…none, according to The Media is Dying.

Perez Hilton: Expect to see him everywhere this week hawking his new book.  Groan.

Facebook: Celebs with legit profiles include Lance Bass, Julie Benz and Josh Groban, but good luck finding them!

Twitter: That nasty virus is still going around and led to the hacking of some celeb accounts.  Guess that helps this article which advocates banning them altogether!  Maybe they should join Facebook?

Sizzle: Check out the shout-out we got on the One Tree Hill Blog!

SIZZLED OUT: Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg), Gossip Girl

STILL SIZZLING: This former Idol was voted favorite star under 35, a new category for the People’s Choice Awards.

Carnegie Hall-worthy! Who woulda thunk it?!

Carnegie Hall-worthy! Who woulda thunk it?!

DWTS: Brooke Burke and Derek Hough were declared the winners last night.  We’re cool with that, though we also would’ve been happy if Lance won.

DWTS Pt. 2: Does life change after you’ve won the trophy?  Hardly.

Gossip Girl: Josh Schwartz has squashed yesterday’s news of a Lily and Rufus flashback show.  What he’s planning instead: webisodes all about Blair’s maid, Dorota.

Carson Daly: The TV host, known for getting stars to spill, has been keeping a secret of his own: he’s gonna be a dad!  Jennifer Love Hewitt and Tara Reid, you better get busy!

SAG: The actors’ strike is more likely to happen when you got big names like Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep supporting it.  Thanks a lot, guys.

NBC: Among the winter schedule changes: two SNL specials, more reality shows and a TV movie.  We doubt ratings will improve.

Family Guy: Seth Green (who voices Chris) and Carnegie Hall kinda seem like a mismatch, but we guess you gotta give the people what they want.  And what they want is a live reading of Family Guy scripts.  Go figure.

Reality TV: Here’s another reason to hate it: people are actually being diagnosed with Truman Syndrome, a type of paranoia where they (incorrectly) think their life is being documented by cameras.  If it wasn’t so sad, we’d probably laugh.

Thanksgiving: Forget the turkey.  All you need is a TV!  There’ll be marathons of faves like I Love Lucy, House, Fresh Prince, Arrested Development and lots more ALL WEEKEND!

90210: One of those aforementioned marathons will be on SOAPNet, with focusing on Kelly’s love life (creatively titled Kelly’s Leftovers).  Doesn’t get much better than that.  But it does get worse: we won’t have access to SOAPNet that day! Tragic.

MTV: Will have its own Inaugural Ball in D.C.  No worries if you can’t go;  they’ll also broadcast it on MTV’s 894328297312 channels.

SIZZLED OUT: Joey Fatone (NSYNC)

STILL SIZZLING: This tear drop-tattooed artist made the best album of the year, or so says Blender.

trl1

AFTER 10 YEARS AND A 3-HOUR FINALE, TOTAL REQUEST LIVE IS OFFICIALLY OFF THE AIR.

The last TRL, renamed Total Finale Live for this special event, was a jam-packed celebration of the show that defined our childhood afternoons.

SOME THOUGHTS

Carson Daly returned to emcee the event with current host Damien Fahey.

The show actually started with a performance by Beyonce.

Weird that it was held on a Sunday night, and not a weekday, like the normal TRL.

Appearances from celebs ran the gamut from Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Jonathan Davis, Snoop Dogg and…Samuel L. Jackson?!

First on-air (and live!) interview with Travis Barker post-plane crash.  Very subdued, not that we blame him.

Diddy pretended to (or perhaps really??) choke up when he was honored for making the most appearances on TRL.

Awkward moment: Carson referring to ex Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Co-hosted by all the former VJs, including three of our faves: Hilarie Burton (yay One Tree Hill!), Dave Holmes and Jesse Camp, from the very first I Wanna Be a VJ contest.

Fall Out Boy performed…minus Pete Wentz.  He later called into the show and said he was in California prepping for imminent fatherhood.  Will it really be that soon?!

Soundbyte: “I bought Twilight on bootleg and watched it like 72 times”–Pete Wentz.  Setting a great example, as always.

Did Hilary Duff run into ex Joel Madden?

Kid Rock insisted on smoking a cigar on stage.  And here we thought it was illegal to smoke in New York venues…

Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez represented NSYNC but it would’ve been cool if the whole band returned AND performed.

X-Tina, Chris Brown, Ben Stiller and others spoke via satellite.

Disappointing moment: Eminem, on the phone, refuses to give any details about his upcoming album, Relapse.

Quintessential window references and segments with the Times Square crowd.

KoRn was hailed as the first rock band of TRL; brought back memories of the KoRn (number 3) spot.

A short segment looked back at the top MTV News moments, giving due respect to 9/11.  Wish they also mentioned Aaliyah.

Many shameless plugs: Bolt, Diddy’s new cologne (who was made fun of for hyping the most stuff over the years), Last Call, FNMTV and more.

East Coast and West Coast rap/hip-hop came together in medley featuring Nelly, Snoop and Ludacris.

Unnecessary moment: knocking LFO.

Soundbyte: “One of the finer moments of my life”–JT recalling when Halle Berry surprised him on a TRL ep.

Backstreet Boys given lots of praise, though we wish former member Kevin returned for the performance.

Soundbyte: “They outlived all the other boy bands and they outlived TRL“–Carson on BSB.

Noticeably absent: 98 Degrees, Jessica Simpson, Destiny’s Child, Mandy Moore, Jay-Z, Avril, Sum-41, Linkin Park and others.

Are all the TRL employees without jobs now?  After all, MTV (and parent Viacom) are doing lay-offs…

Soundbyte: Britney is “the queen of TRL“–Carson on Brit Brit who “couldn’t be here.”

Loved that some of our favorite moments were re-aired: the debut party for BSB’s Millenium album, Mariah and her ice cream truck, countless others.

Speaking of counting, the TRL finale wouldn’t be complete without a final countdown. The Top 10 videos from TRL history, as decided by the producers: Hey-Ya (Outkast), What’s My Age Again (Blink-182), Yeah (Ludacris, Usher, et. al.), Crazy in Love (Beyonce), Bawitdaba (Kid Rock), Dirrty (Christina Aguilera), Bye Bye Bye (NSYNC), I Want It That Way (BSB), The Real Slim Shady (Eminem), and, at number one, Baby One More Time (Britney).

Soundbyte: “Goodnight from New York and goodnight TRL“–Carson.

TEAR!
