Who remembers this show?

Who remembers this "game" show?

American Idol: The show made history last night (Idol history, that is) when the judges used their veto rule for the first time ever.  Who did they save from elimination?  Click here to find out!

David Archuleta: The former Idol finalist will be touring this summer with Demi Lovato.  That noise you hear is tweens screaming at the top of their lungs.  Get used to it.

Diddy: Proving once again that, yes, he can do everything, the mogul has signed on to appear in another movie.  Does he ever stop??

TV: Apparently the Brits love U.S. television.  They ranked their 50 favorite American shows, with some surprising results.  Reaper..really?!

Harry Potter: The release date for the next film, due out this summer, has been moved up by a whopping 2 days.  It will now open July 15th–a day very near and dear to our heart!  And yet, we still won’t go see the movie!

GSN: This June the Game Show Network will air the first-ever Game Show Awards, honoring series past and present.  Among the wide range of nominees: Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Wheel of Fortune, The Amazing Race and…Singled Out?!  Let’s play a new game: which one of these things is not like the other?

SIZZLED OUT: Tori Spelling

STILL SIZZLING: We’re just full of Idol news today!  This winner, arguably one of the show’s least-popular, is returning to the tube with a reality show.  He/she can probably use the money!

Do not date him!

Says Katy Perry: Do not date him!

Jennifer Hudson: Maybe she seemed sad during her Superbowl performance because she was forced to lip synch?

Superbowl: If you were a Comcast subscriber in Tuscan, AZ., your football broadcast was interrupted by a 30-second porn clip.  And here everyone thought Janet Jackson’s Nipplegate was the worst that could happen!

Superbowl Pt. 2: The media industry has serious problems when it can’t even afford to send the editor of Sports Illustrated to the biggest football game of the year!

The View: Heading to LA for a special week of episodes meant to “revitalize” the show.  Among the guests: Miley Cyrus, Jay Leno and…Heidi and Spencer, who show’s producer admits he’s obsessed with.  We feel sorry for him.

Academy Awards: This year’s telecast will be designed to appeal more to a “moviegoing culture.”  We’re not sure what that means but guess we’ll find out on Feb. 22!

Diddy: Came to the profound conclusion that “hip-hop is in a recession.”  ‘Cause, you know, the rest of us are doing so well…

Katy Perry: Seems she has serious beef with ex-boyfriend Travis McCoy.  She’s advising girls to stay away from boys that “just want the milk but don’t want to buy the cow.”

Demi Lovtato: Warning her fans that she may “wear less black” as she matures.  We could’ve told you that!

Twitter: We love micro-blogging and all but this is a little too much: Erykah Badu tweeted while she was in labor!

SIZZLED OUT: Kyle XY

STILL SIZZLING: This famous singer–and big football fan–got a Superbowl-themed surprise party from his actress girlfriend.

Wonder how Diddy's feeling right about now...

Wonder how Diddy's feeling right about now...

Jessica Simpson: This doesn’t happen that often. Simpson said some wise words at her concert last night: “”I feel like in our world today we focus on so many things that are completely pointless.”  No doubt she’s referring to the recent hubbub surrounding her weight.

The View: Co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is pregnant again!  This will be her third baby in less than 4 years!  We should be so lucky!

Obama: The Washington Post claims cartoonists are focusing too much on emphasizing the new president’s lips.  Racist or not?  Or just comes with the territory?

The CW: Returning to the listings grid in TV Guide.  In case you actually still need one of those things.

Danity Kane: The Making The Band/Diddy-formed group has completely broken up.  Guess they’re really damaged now!

Superbowl: Just face it: no party you plan or attend will top what the stars have planned for the big day.  We can’t wait til we’re famous!

The Office: After the game, don’t forget to watch the star-studded episode, which is sure to get super ratings.

Forbes: On their Web Celeb 25 list, Perez Hilton comes in a number one for the second year in a row.  How much longer do you think that’ll last?

Twitter: New to the game and don’t know who to follow?  As a companion piece to the above article, Forbes also has a list of the most influential Twitterers.

SIZZLED OUT: Rachael Ray

STILL SIZZLING: This actress, mostly known for the endless aray of spoofs she’s starred in, is getting serious with a former Everwood actor.  They’re engaged!

trl1

AFTER 10 YEARS AND A 3-HOUR FINALE, TOTAL REQUEST LIVE IS OFFICIALLY OFF THE AIR.

The last TRL, renamed Total Finale Live for this special event, was a jam-packed celebration of the show that defined our childhood afternoons.

SOME THOUGHTS

Carson Daly returned to emcee the event with current host Damien Fahey.

The show actually started with a performance by Beyonce.

Weird that it was held on a Sunday night, and not a weekday, like the normal TRL.

Appearances from celebs ran the gamut from Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Jonathan Davis, Snoop Dogg and…Samuel L. Jackson?!

First on-air (and live!) interview with Travis Barker post-plane crash.  Very subdued, not that we blame him.

Diddy pretended to (or perhaps really??) choke up when he was honored for making the most appearances on TRL.

Awkward moment: Carson referring to ex Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Co-hosted by all the former VJs, including three of our faves: Hilarie Burton (yay One Tree Hill!), Dave Holmes and Jesse Camp, from the very first I Wanna Be a VJ contest.

Fall Out Boy performed…minus Pete Wentz.  He later called into the show and said he was in California prepping for imminent fatherhood.  Will it really be that soon?!

Soundbyte: “I bought Twilight on bootleg and watched it like 72 times”–Pete Wentz.  Setting a great example, as always.

Did Hilary Duff run into ex Joel Madden?

Kid Rock insisted on smoking a cigar on stage.  And here we thought it was illegal to smoke in New York venues…

Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez represented NSYNC but it would’ve been cool if the whole band returned AND performed.

X-Tina, Chris Brown, Ben Stiller and others spoke via satellite.

Disappointing moment: Eminem, on the phone, refuses to give any details about his upcoming album, Relapse.

Quintessential window references and segments with the Times Square crowd.

KoRn was hailed as the first rock band of TRL; brought back memories of the KoRn (number 3) spot.

A short segment looked back at the top MTV News moments, giving due respect to 9/11.  Wish they also mentioned Aaliyah.

Many shameless plugs: Bolt, Diddy’s new cologne (who was made fun of for hyping the most stuff over the years), Last Call, FNMTV and more.

East Coast and West Coast rap/hip-hop came together in medley featuring Nelly, Snoop and Ludacris.

Unnecessary moment: knocking LFO.

Soundbyte: “One of the finer moments of my life”–JT recalling when Halle Berry surprised him on a TRL ep.

Backstreet Boys given lots of praise, though we wish former member Kevin returned for the performance.

Soundbyte: “They outlived all the other boy bands and they outlived TRL“–Carson on BSB.

Noticeably absent: 98 Degrees, Jessica Simpson, Destiny’s Child, Mandy Moore, Jay-Z, Avril, Sum-41, Linkin Park and others.

Are all the TRL employees without jobs now?  After all, MTV (and parent Viacom) are doing lay-offs…

Soundbyte: Britney is “the queen of TRL“–Carson on Brit Brit who “couldn’t be here.”

Loved that some of our favorite moments were re-aired: the debut party for BSB’s Millenium album, Mariah and her ice cream truck, countless others.

Speaking of counting, the TRL finale wouldn’t be complete without a final countdown. The Top 10 videos from TRL history, as decided by the producers: Hey-Ya (Outkast), What’s My Age Again (Blink-182), Yeah (Ludacris, Usher, et. al.), Crazy in Love (Beyonce), Bawitdaba (Kid Rock), Dirrty (Christina Aguilera), Bye Bye Bye (NSYNC), I Want It That Way (BSB), The Real Slim Shady (Eminem), and, at number one, Baby One More Time (Britney).

Soundbyte: “Goodnight from New York and goodnight TRL“–Carson.

Shannen Doherty version 2.0

Shenae Grimes: AKA Shannen Doherty version 2.0

Gawker: We love their headline today: Newspapers Agree, Today is Election Day!

CBS: Is there a such thing as comfort food through television?  CBS seems to think so.  They’re crediting the bad economy for their surging ratings.  Apparently the network is a “safe haven.”  Not for us, though.  It’s still our least favorite.

HSM: OMFG, a sing-along version of the third movie will be in theaters THIS FRIDAY!  We are so there!

Shenae Grimes: As rumors persist that the new 90210 starlet is this generation’s Shannen Doherty, the young actress admits seeking advice from dear ol’ Brenda.  Something tell us–perhaps it’s the multiple show firings or the I Hate Brenda Newsletter–this wasn’t the best idea.

Fuse: In the ongoing music television war, Fuse has won the latest battle.  The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremonies, previously broadcast on MTV and VH1, are now partnered with Fuse.  And here we thought nobody watched the ceremonies to begin with.

MTV: Striking out even more with secret layoffs that will supposedly go down today.  Guess not a lot of people just want their MTV anymore.

Viacom: Would you rather a huge, annual holiday party or two extra vacation days?  Viacom isn’t giving its employees a choice, just the latter.  No wonder MTVers (owned by Viacom) are so bummed these days.

AOL: Are the morning news shows too long or just too boring?  No need to worry anymore since AOL is condensing them into a handy 5-minute clip.  But will people really take the time to seek this out if they didn’t care to watch in the first place?

Obama: Don’t expect to see many celebs at the massive rally tonight in Chicago.  The Obama camp has specifically asked certain stars like Diddy and Ben Affleck not to attend (and it’s Diddy’s b-day today!).  Discrimination, anyone?  Or just a smart safety-focused (and maybe a teeny bit selfish) move?

Danity Kane just got significantly less feminine.

Danity Kane just got significantly less feminine.

Angelina Jolie: Admitted in a TV interview this morning that she and Brad are already considering adopting again.  What, six kids aren’t enough?

Aubrey O’ Day: Kicked out of Danity Kane by Diddy because of “the person that fame has made her.”  Guess she really is damaged.

Beyonce: Scheduled to perform on the last episode of TRL in November.  Expect more goodies to be announced in the coming weeks.

Chris Kattan: Officially divorced from his wife after two months.  Very unfunny for a supposedly funny man.

David Duchovny: AKA the recovering sex addict has confirmed he and his wife (actress Tea Leoni) are separated–and have been for several months.

TV Guide: Remember how we told you yesterday our beloved magazine was sold ? Now we have a price: a whopping…$1.

90210: Some people thought the only thing this “spin-off” had going for it was Jessica Walters as the boozy grandma.  Well, no more.  Or at least, significantly less.  Walter has been demoted from from a regular to a recurring character.  The reason: too much expense. The “consolation”: that Adrianna girl will now be a regular.  Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?

Jason Priestley: Coming back to play Brandon.  But not THEE Brandon.  Just some new character with the same name on My Name is Earl.  What a tease!

Best Week Ever: Not true for the multiple commentators that were fired.  From now on, only one person will have the best week ever.

SIZZLED OUT: Gossip Girl

STILL SIZZLING: Which Hollywood mom recently said giving her daughter “motherly advice” included directing her in a short film?

Brit Brit is all grown up! Sort of.

Brit Brit is all grown up! Sort of.

Britney Spears: The pop tart is looking back on the last few years and saying “What was I thinking?”  We have a sneaking suspicion she’ll be saying that two years from now, too.

Diddy: Admits he has imaginary friends. Can’t say we’re surprised.  How else did his ego get so big?

Katie Holmes: It’s really not a big deal that Katie does a big sing-and-dance number on Eli Stone.  After all, she did several performances on Dawson’s Creek.  But we guess only a true fan would know that.  All two of us.

Chinese Democracy: The long-awaited album from Axl and co. will supposedly come out this year.  Who even cares anymore?  Welcome to the Jungle is so 1987.

CosmoGirl!: A part of your adolescence and ours is the latest victim of the economy.  Here’s what we want to know: where will we get our monthly Eye Candy from?  And what about Project 2024?  And CG Girl!  Seventeen, you better watch your back.
