What do you think makes a good cover?

What do you think makes a good cover?

PEOPLE: Want to know how they choose their cover stories?  We could tell you from our own experiences, but we’ll let The New York Times do it for us.  While they don’t exactly portray the mag in the best light, it is pretty accurate–which is an improvement from the article last winter.

Jon & Kate Plus 8: Not that we didn’t already know this, but a media firestorm can really drive up ratings.  The Jon & Kate premiere more than doubled last year’s audience.  Now let’s see if they can keep it–and their marriage.

Real Housewives: Planning another spin-off, this time in Washington, D.C.  How many do we need?  Aren’t they all the same after a while?

Twitter: Is all publicity good publicity?  Time will tell, especially now that Twitter is taking heat from users (including Ashton Kutcher) about it’s supposed reality TV plans.

Twitter Pt. 2: Just discovered TruthTweet, which looks to be a great resource for identifying real celebrities and impersonators on Twitter.

New York Times: Named its very first social media editor.  A step in the right direction for a traditionally traditional news outlet, no?

SIZZLED OUT: T.I.

STILL SIZZLING: This overseas singer who (arguably, of course) can barely dress herself will be designing a fashion line.

This your American Idol. You okay with that?

This your American Idol. You okay with that?

American Idol: Has there been a bigger upset in Idol history?  We think not.  And we totally blame all the pre-finale hoopla around Adam  Lambert for his loss.  The hype totally backfired on him!

Kanye West: Used his blog to declare “Justin is the new Mike, Beyonce’s the new Tina Turner [and] GaGa’s Madonna.”  Kind of little soon to be making grand statements like that, no?  Then again, this is Kanye West so…

Pete Wentz: Peeved at Gawker for including him, Ashlee Simpson and son Bronx, in their Stalker column.  The result?  “Hate mail” sent to Gawker on his behalf gives them another opportunity to make fun of him.  Good work, Pete.  But we suppose this tweet was Pete’s way of firing back again.  To be continued?

Natalie Cole: The singer, who suffers from hepatitis C, had a kidney transplant this week.  What would we do without organ donors?

Kelly Rutherford: Apparently hiring private investigators to watch your husband doesn’t just happen in the movies.  If you’re Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford, it’s just one more twist in your divorce drama.

Twitter: E! Online is planning to incorporate tweets into its scroll at the bottom of all programming.  Is it fair to say now that Twitter has gone mainstream?

SIZZLED OUT: Privileged

STILL SIZZLING: The artist who voiced this iconic animal character passed away this week. Guess the Magic Kingdom will be in mourning for a while…

Sadly, now only two of these 'Girls' are still alive.

Sadly, now only two of these 'Girls' are still alive.

Speidi: Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt marriedre-married, depending on how you look at it— over the weekend. Sure it’ll be on TV sooner or later.

Jamie Lynn Spears: Her babydaddy got into a serious accident yesterday, landing him in the hospital.  Thankfully, for his family’s sake, he’s expected to recover.

Bea Arthur: The world got a little bit less funny this weekend with the passing of this Golden Girl.  She was 86.

Twitter: Has Matthew Perry joined the celeb Twitter movement?  You decide.

Best Week Ever: Put together a list of the top TV cross-overs, including more than one Steve Urkel appearance.  Lots of classic moments and tons of memories–love it!

Spider-Man: Totally disappointed.  Thought the roles for the upcoming musical were pretty much set, but according to MTV, open auditions are being held throughout the country.  Hmmm…

SIZZLED OUT: BET

STILL SIZZLING: This rapper’s return to the mainstream will be buoyed by not one but two abums–even though the first one isn’t even out yet!  Talk about an addiction!

The subject of a new movie?

The subject of a new movie?

Beyonce: Subject to a “hoax” yesterday when a recording surfaced–on the Howard Stern Show, no less–reportedly of B singing quite poorly.  But her camp quickly denied it was real–and claimed it was great publicity!

Tom Cruise: Pays writers what for many of us would be a year’s salary just to retool scripts of movies he’s considering.  Where do we sign up?

Elizabeth Banks: The Zack and Miri actress will star in “a workplace comedy” called “Forever 21” but no word yet if it’s related to the clothing store.  Would be kind of weird if it isn’t, though, right?

Beauty & the Beast: Our favorite Disney movie is just the latest classic fairytale to be remade.  HSM’s Vanessa Hudgens will star in a modern retelling simply named “Beastly.”  Let’s hope it’s better than all the Cinderella re-dos.

Daily Beast: Has a short photo gallery on how shows hides actresses’ pregnancies.  Timely because of the Pompeo news.

Maureen Dowd: Love the ending to Dowd’s latest New York Times column about Twitter.  We think she’s only dissing it because everyone likes it.  Psht.

SIZZLED OUT: Fred Segal

STILL SIZZLING: This athlete who has been accused of domestic abuse in the past weighed in on the Chris Brown-Rihanna situation, saying that Brown is a “baby'” who can’t handle his emotions.

Screen shot, taken by Kutcher himself, showing his "win"

Screen shot, taken by Kutcher himself, showing his "win"

David Cook: The reigning Idol will participate in a charity run benefiting brain cancer research. Cook has seen the devastating effects of the disease first-hand, as his brother is currently battling it.  We wish them both the best of luck.

YouTube: Upping the ante in its battle against Hulu, the video-sharing site will increase its offering of free television shows.

Ashton Kutcher: At approximately 1:10am (central time), Kutcher became the first Twitter user to get a million followers.  CNN, ever the good sport, was quick to admit its defeat.  Good fun had by all.  Now when does the unfollowing start?

Oprah: Caught the Twitter bug, too, and will dedicate today’s show to the subject.

SIZZLED OUT: Fantasia

STILL SIZZLING: Cameron Diaz shaves her head–or so it seems–in the trailer for this new movie based on a heartbreaking book.

Even the circus leaves town...

Even the circus leaves town...

Britney: The headline says it all: Bad economy may Britney Spears’s Circus Tent.  See, even iconic pop stars aren’t immune!

Prison Break: Here’s some more info on the series’ end–it won’t all air on TV!  The so-called finale is still on for May 15 but then there will be two additional episodes released on DVD.  Thanks for digging into our pockets, guys.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles are as good as canceled.  At least this frees up Brian Austin Green for 90210!

Twitter: Apparently there’s a “fight” going on between Ashton Kutcher and CNN’s Larry King on who will get to a million followers first.  Don’t these people have work to do??

Variety: We understand that they’re traditionally a trade magazine (read: in print), but really have no idea why they would lay off one of the web editors.  Pretty sure the web is the future of journalism.  Just sayin’.

Alec Baldwin: Speaking of the industry’s future, Baldwin wrote a whole column on it for The Huffington Post.  Why Baldwin?  We’re still trying to figure that one out.

Condoleezza Rice: And it gets weirder: Rice is now a columnist for The Daily Beast and she’s writing about, of all things, her love of Tiger Woods.  Random!

Gawker: Came up with the “5 types of American Idol watchers.” Love it!  Where do you fall?

3-D: Coming to a television near you!  The first “full-time 3-D network” is in the works.   Expect people to have a lot more headaches and nausea!

Blagojevich: Wow.  Just wow.  The former Illinois governor has signed on to a REALITY SHOW!  Can’t make this stuff up, folks!

SIZZLED OUT: TV Land

STILL SIZZLING: This actress (and book author!) is denying rumors that she’s anorexic.  Her excuse: she’s been pregnant and people have forgotten what she looks like thin!

Just needed to add some females to this post!

Just needed to add some females to this post!

Zac Efron: Absolutely loved the HSM skit he did on SNL this weekend.  Except for the anti-Semitic Walt Disney.  That part wasn’t necessary.

Eminem: Will be performing at the MTV Movie Awards, according to MTV’s Twitter acount.

Fast & Furious: After the record-breaking success (really!) of the franchise’s fourth installment, they’re now planning a fifth one!  Don’t think anyone expected this!

Obama: Love that the identity of his dog can’t even stay secret!  The news was leaked by an anonymous site before The Washington Post, given rights to the story, could report it.

RENT: We had the opportunity to see our favorite musical this weekend for the sixth time!  What made this performance so special?  It starred Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal back in the roles they originated more than 10 years ago.  And they were as amazing as ever!

Scott Peterson: Always was and always will be fascinated by the Laci/Scott Peterson case.  Really glad to PEOPLE did an update on the story.

SIZZLED OUT: Beyonce and Jay-Z

STILL SIZZLING: This singer praised her Rihanna for being a “cool chick.”  Did she kiss her, too?

The latest example of Pixar genius

The latest example of Pixar genius

Chris Brown: The New York Times has a really interesting piece exploring why teens might be siding with him in the Rihanna case.  The court of law may decide his legal fate, but these kids get to decide whether to make or break his career.

Jennifer Lopez: Joined (ironically?) by a bunch of young C-list stars in a West Side Story photo spread in Vanity Fair.

Obama: Made some good quips with Jay Leno last night, but do people want a president that’s funny and taking time out for late-night appearances?  Or does that make him seem more “real”?

Family Guy: Here’s a nomination for weirdest cross-over in TV history.  Stewie will interact with David Boreanaz’s character on an upcoming episode of Bones.

VH1: Bringing back one of their old staples, Behind the Music.  Which is interesting considering they don’t seem to do much with music these days.  So far only Lil’ Wayne and Scott Weiland have been announced as the biography series’ subjects.

Pixar: The creators of Wall-E will have the honor of opening the prestegious Cannes Film Festival with their newest film, Up.  With their track record, it’s bound to be a hit.

Twitter: The staff at Good Morning America is so happy about their Twitter use that they released a statement saying how they more followers than competing news programs.  ‘Cause, you know, that’s what’s most important.

SIZZLED OUT: Kanye West

STILL SIZZLING: This comedian isn’t laughing now that he watched his own brother be indicted for stealing his money.

She has greatest hits, but some forgettable looks!

She has greatest hits, but some forgettable looks!

Rihanna: One of the columnists at Entertainment Weekly wrote a great column on how people are mistaken for thinking Rihanna is a role model.  Memo to the world: being a pop singer doesn’t make you qualified to set examples for kids!

American Idol: Rumor has it that the producers already “picked” the final four.  The show’s response?  “No comment.”  Wouldn’t be the first time they’ve been accused of rigging the voting.  Definitely won’t be the last.

DWTS: There’s a ton of so-called professional post-show bloggers out there, but for an inside source, check out judge Bruno Tonioli’s over at The Daily Beast.

Madonna: Working on a greatest hits album to be released in the fall.  Will likely include new songs as well.  Does this woman ever stop?!

Natasha Richardson: With so many conflicting stories out there, we’re not going to link to anything.  Some say she’s brain dead.  Others say she was talking fine after the accident.  Let’s stop speculating and just wait for an official comment!

Facebook: As hardcore Twitter users (follow us at @sizzlemaker!), we simultaneously annoyed and pleased by Facebook’s recent changes.  Most people, it seems, are just upset because they can be.  No one likes change, do they?

SIZZLED OUT: SciFi (becoming SyFy)

STILL SIZZLING: This late actor, best known for his filmwork, directed two soon-to-be-released music videos before his unexpected death.

Girl Becomes Woman

Girl Becomes Woman

ANTM: Video of the so-called stampede at this weekend’s New York audition left us speechless.  Can you imagine that many people running–in heels?!

Lindsay Lohan: First there was an arrest warrant.  Then there was a misunderstanding.  Is anything ever straight forward with this girl?  (Insert your own bisexual joke here.)

Lindsay Lohan Pt. 2: Gawker has supposedly exposed her Twitter account.  Interesting to read in light of the above.

Charlie Sheen: Named his twin boys Max and Bob.  That’s it?  Really?  Sure you’re a celeb, Charlie?

Josh Schwartz: The mastermind behind The O.C. and Gossip Girl has developed a web-only series called Rockville CA.  If his track record is any indication, it’ll probably be underappreciated amazingness.

Nickelodeon: Say goodbye to The N and hello to TeeNick.  And if you have youngins, Noggin will change to Nick Jr.  Maybe rebranding will help it kick some Disney butt?

Anna Chlumsky: Don’t recognize the name?  Then maybe you’ve forgotten the awesomeness that was My Girl and My Girl 2.  Chlumsky is returning to the airwaves via a CBS pilot.  It’s still the year of the comeback, isn’t it?

Sizzlemaker: Working on a new Twitter-related project.  Get excited!

SIZZLED OUT: Heathers

STILL SIZZLING: This buff actor, who is trying to change his image with a series of kid-friendly films, admitted he took steroids in college.
