What do you think makes a good cover?

What do you think makes a good cover?

PEOPLE: Want to know how they choose their cover stories?  We could tell you from our own experiences, but we’ll let The New York Times do it for us.  While they don’t exactly portray the mag in the best light, it is pretty accurate–which is an improvement from the article last winter.

Jon & Kate Plus 8: Not that we didn’t already know this, but a media firestorm can really drive up ratings.  The Jon & Kate premiere more than doubled last year’s audience.  Now let’s see if they can keep it–and their marriage.

Real Housewives: Planning another spin-off, this time in Washington, D.C.  How many do we need?  Aren’t they all the same after a while?

Twitter: Is all publicity good publicity?  Time will tell, especially now that Twitter is taking heat from users (including Ashton Kutcher) about it’s supposed reality TV plans.

Twitter Pt. 2: Just discovered TruthTweet, which looks to be a great resource for identifying real celebrities and impersonators on Twitter.

New York Times: Named its very first social media editor.  A step in the right direction for a traditionally traditional news outlet, no?

SIZZLED OUT: T.I.

STILL SIZZLING: This overseas singer who (arguably, of course) can barely dress herself will be designing a fashion line.

Does she top your list?

Does she top your list?

American Idol: Down to the final two.  Next week should be pretty great.

Jon & Kate Plus Eight: Really don’t understand all the hubbub surrounding the Gosselin family.  Is it really worthy of the cover of PEOPLE Magazine?!

Beyonce: Tied with T.I. for most BET Awards nominations.  The show will air in June, hosted by Jamie Foxx.

Shanna Moakler: Resigned from the Miss USA organization following the controversy with Miss California, Carrie Prejean.  Does that mean we’ll be getting Meet the Barkers 2 soon?

Olivia Wilde: Feel like most people are going “who?” at the news that Wilde tops Maxim’s Hot 100 list but we’ve been a fan of her since her days on The O.C.!

The Cosby Show: As we come up on the show’s 25th anniversary, Variety is wondering if the show would make the cut today.  In a post-Obama world, we say yes.

Blink-182: Will tour this summer with Fall Out Boy and Weezer.  That’s one heckuva lineup!  Sounds like exactly where we want to be…

SIZZLED OUT: Cassie

STILL SIZZLING: This female comedian, who only recently publicly admitted to being gay, announced yesterday that she’s now the mother of twins.

Are they or aren't they?!

Are they or aren't they?!

Britney: Celebrated the New Year by attending her brother Bryan’s “secret” wedding.  Interesting that he got married just months after being named one of PEOPLE’s hottest bachelors!

Pink: What is the deal with ex-husband Carey Hart?  No longer married but still “love” each other–and last night, he introduced her on stage.  What a strange relationship!

Taylor Swift: Forced to share a stage with ex-BF Joe Jonas as the ball dropped.  Is it fair to assume those two did not share a New Year’s greeting?

Twitter: Getting (unwanted?) press attention after it came out Israel is using the social media site to keep people updated on the Gaza conflict.

Oprah: Remember those cute kids who changed T.I.’s Whatever You Like into an election song?  O just gave their school a check for more than $300,000.

Nikki Blonsky: No longer facing charges for an airport altercation with one of the ANTM contestants.  Her dad could still get up to 5 years in jail.

Gawker: The media company sold or is in the process of selling two of their sites: Consumerist and Defamer.  Even the on-line world isn’t immune to the economy’s woes!

Viacom: If you want your MTV, you can have it!  The company reached a deal with Time Warner Cable to keep their stations–Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, etc.–on the air.

Blagojevich: We fully expected to return from our travels and find him out of office.  No such luck.

2008: Sooooooo over the ‘top ten’ and ‘best of’ lists.  Hello 2009!

STILL SIZZLING: This celebrity supercouple may or may not be getting divorced on Valentine’s Day.  But what about the kids?!

Enjoy the holiday. We'll be back on Friday!

Enjoy the holiday. We'll be back Monday.

Shenae Grimes: Disputing rumors of an eating disorder.  We’ve met her and the rest of the 90210 cast multiple times and we don’t recall her being any skinnier than the rest of the girls.

Rosie Live: We weren’t disappointed but we weren’t satisfied, either.  We probably liked this article more than the actual show, though.

NBC: Superbowl ads aren’t really selling because of the economy.  Surprise, surprise.

Britney: MTV is counting down her best news moments but we like to believe the best is still yet to come.

T.I.: Less than week after he took the witness stand in a trial against the man accused of killing his assistant, T.I. can rest easy knowing the now-declared murderer will spend at least 20 years behind bars.

Swinging the bat at a teammate

Swinging the bat at a teammate

Election: What better way to get kids involved than to write a song to the tune of T.I.’s Whatever You Like? Brilliant.

DWTS: Finally!  Adios, Cloris!

Rebecca Budig: Why make a much-hyped return to All My Children only to leave again one year later?  The actress attributes her departure to her busy life with husband (and former Bachelor hunk) Bob Guiney.  We hope ABC feels stupid now for all its “the real Greenlee returns” promotion.  So now we’ll be back with a “fake one”?

Derek Jeter: Gave a subtle diss to teammate and former BFF A-Rod when he told a reporter “Don’t start with me about Kabbalah. I went to Catholic school.” Is a locker room brawl in the future?

Rosie O’Donnell: Reacted to the Jennifer Hudson tragedy by putting some startling statistics up on her blog.  Turns out, it’s ridiculously common to be murdered by an “intimate partner.”  Such a tragic, scary world we live in.

Russell Brand: Never one to stay out of trouble, the British (actor? host? comic? WHAT IS HE?!) resigned from the BBC after harassing another actor through voicemail.  This is not the first time Brand’s left his place of employment in a huff.  Right after 9/11, he showed up for work at MTV dressed as Osama Bin Laden.  Classy.
